Tuesday, the Connecticut Huskies women’s basketball team reached a milestone that no other team may again match

Eighty-nine consecutive wins.

An amazing accomplishment. Something for which everyone should applaud coach Geno Auriemma and the players who were part of this great journey.

This record has brought a tremendous amount of publicity to the UConn program, but also to the sport of women’s basketball as a whole. A growing number of people are now starting to tune into this team, and watch a new record continuing to be set each game.

Nobody likes trying to find similarities between their school and a rival. There’s not a student sitting in their dorm room right now thinking how the Hoosiers and the Boilermakers are alike.

It’s about as much fun as getting a 400-level chemistry test returned after devoting a whole 45 minutes to studying. So when asked to find similarities between the basketball programs of Indiana University and the University of Kentucky, most students are running for their chemistry books.

But like it or not, the leaders of each program share similarities.

At times they looked good. At times they looked ugly. But now they look promising. This is how I would describe the Indiana Pacers and their first full month of play. It was a November to remember that saw the Pacers wrap up their first winning November under head coach Jim O’Brien and their first since 2006.

Although their record stands at 9-8 after Wednesday night’s loss at Utah, it is their recent play that has the Pacer faithful talking. Wins at Miami and in Los Angeles against the Lakers have even gained attention.

Well...sort of.
