Hoosiers Fall in Big Ten Opener

As the saying goes: “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

That wasn’t the case Monday night as the Indiana men's basketball team lost its third consecutive game, dropping its Big Ten opener against Penn State 69-60 after going 0-2 in the IBN Las Vegas Classic last week.

Hoosiers romp over SIU-Edwardsville 88-54

Where is Indiana University basketball right now?

Through ten games, the Hoosiers have found themselves victorious eight times, the most recent being tonight’s 88-54 obliteration of outmatched SIU-Edwardsville at Assembly Hall.

And although there’s little doubt that we’ve learned far more about IU’s basketball team in the two losses, it’s possible that the most recent victory gave us some insight into this team’s component parts --- and valuable insight at that.

Recruiting one-and-dones not ideal way to championships

Nobody likes trying to find similarities between their school and a rival. There’s not a student sitting in their dorm room right now thinking how the Hoosiers and the Boilermakers are alike.

It’s about as much fun as getting a 400-level chemistry test returned after devoting a whole 45 minutes to studying. So when asked to find similarities between the basketball programs of Indiana University and the University of Kentucky, most students are running for their chemistry books.

But like it or not, the leaders of each program share similarities.

IU basketball has a bright future ahead of itself due to the major in-state recruits coming in the next few years.Head coach Tom Crean has proved that the best way to recruit is to get the major talents in Indiana.

After, Cody Zeller signed his Letter of Intent to play at Indiana, more recruits committed to be a part of the new era of IU basketball mixed with the traditional:Where basketball is dominant and over 17,000 fans come into Assembly Hall each game expecting a win.

I see sell-outs for every game starting next year because of the major signing of Zeller.

Youngsters lead the way against Savannah State

Sophomores Jordan Hulls and Maurice Creek came out shooting against Savannah St. Saturday night.

Hulls and Creek combined for six-for-eight shooting from three point range in the first half, giving IU men a comfortable lead on the way to a 79-57 nonconference victory at Assembly Hall.

Sophomore Christian Watford was a presence as well, contributing 14 points.

“I love Christian on the wing,” IU coach Tom Crean said. “Playing the left side of the court.”

A Solution for Tom Crean's Scholarship Situation

Tuesday evening, the Indiana University athletics department announced that seven-foot junior-college transfer Guy-Marc Michel was ineligible for the 2010-11 season. Since Michel enrolled in college-level classes while in France in 2006, this season is considered his fifth year of eligibility. Thus, making him ineligible for next season.

Michel will still be under scholarship for the remainder of the 2010-11 academic year, but not 2011-12.

When dealing with the vacated scholarship, Tom Crean has a few options:
