No Fear of challenges

Living in small town Versailles in southeastern Indiana, Michael Fear had the desire to get better at baseball, but had a hard time finding the right people to help him.

He and his family knew that they were at a disadvantage being in such a small town, but persisted on their efforts to find the right instructors. After several months of searching, Fear and his father found themselves driving four hours round-trip for batting practice a few times a week.

The practice paid off, and Fear is now playing on scholarship in Division 1 baseball at Morehead State University in Kentucky. Fear is a senior and recently created his own company called geT beTTer Today.

He said he thought of the idea because of his own struggles trying to find the right people to help him achieve his dreams.

“Being a young and aspiring entrepreneur, I always have tried to come up with ideas that would solve problems,” Fear said. “I would sit in class, bed and other places just thinking of business ideas that could be solutions to problems.”

Fear is in the process of putting together a website that will allow players, coaches and mentors to connect and keep contact with one another. Through his own experiences, he noticed that there was a lack of advertising capabilities to bring them together. The goal of the website is to “encourage people to improve in all aspects of their lives.”

“We aspire to connect motivated and determined individuals with coaches, instructors or mentors that they need,” Fear said.

The website will feature articles and a blog for users that is intended for continuous learning and inspiration. Fear said he will always be searching for successful people to provide his clients with advice on how to get better today.

He said he will start out targeting the Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio regions.

Fear has always had the desire to learn and get better at everything he does. While in high school, he often missed out on social events because of his strong will to better himself at baseball. He said a lot of his inspiration came from his parents, who have always supported him in whatever he does.

Even though it is baseball season, Fear is working with a web designer on a consistent basis. As of right now, the business is solely run by him, the web designer and with help from his parents.

Fear chose to capitalize the T’s in the name and logo of the company because he thought it made the name stand out more. They do not stand for anything in particular now, but could in the future.

Currently, the website is being created and Fear hopes for a launch date this July after the baseball season is over and he will have had time to work full time on the project. Fear has created bracelets and plans to sell T-shirts to offcut company expenses.

Fear’s hard work has won him many awards both in baseball and in the classroom. In 2007, he was an All-Star for Indiana Baseball North/South and finished high school with a 4.0 G.P.A. In 2008, Fear was on the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer Team. He is currently a senior and is working toward a Business Management Bachelor’s Degree maintaining a 3.5 G.P.A while also being a captain of the baseball team.

April 20, Fear had the lone RBI to put Morehead State on the board in its 5-1 loss against Indiana.
