Round up the troops.
At least that is what Indiana University senior Kevin Swieboda is saying about the latest IU fad, the Hoosier Army Fan Club.
The Hoosier Army is a student-based organization here on campus, dedicated to school pride, focusing particularly on the IU men’s soccer team.
With social media networks such as Twitter and Facebook the way they are, the club has spread like wild fire and continues to grow, quickly.
“It’s a lot of word of mouth,†notes fellow senior Evan Reynolds, “your friends telling your friends.â€
When Reynolds was asked where this club could go in these upcoming years, the veteran Hoosier thinks the sky really is the limit. “I really see it going big places.â€
Based on what I saw personally at Sunday’s win against Dayton, and the vibe I got, it is hard to disagree with him. The atmosphere is extremely welcoming, and the fans are great.
The overall positive energy around these students, who on multiple occasions throughout the game started various chants and claps that soon spread to other fans behind them, was a sight to see.
“[It’s] just getting together,†Reynolds said. “Having a good time, supporting IU soccer.â€
Swieboda says the IU men’s soccer team is on the rise as well, and is confident the Hoosier Army will be alongside for the ride.
“You don’t necessarily have to be a soccer fan†notes Swieboda, who thinks you just have to be a fan of Indiana. “It’s a place where people come, and just really have a good time and support our school.â€
Did the Hoosier faithful just start something big?
Who knows, maybe #HAFC will be trending in these next weeks as the season progresses.
Whatever the case may be, they certainly have one more person convinced, that’s for sure.
