After a layoff for finals week and winter break, the Crimson 3-Pack is back!
Hoosiers Face Road Test This Weekend
The celebration in Bloomington after Saturday night’s 80-61 IU victory against Michigan was short-lived when it was revealed Monday evening that sophomore guard Maurice Creek is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his right patella.
Now, Tom Crean and the Hoosiers will head to Madison on Thursday to face Bo Ryan’s Badgers. Like just about every other team that has visited the Kohl Center during Ryan’s tenure, Indiana hasn’t seen much success in America’s Dairyland. Wisconsin is 146-11 at home under Ryan.
IU will be further tested on Sunday when the team goes to Iowa City to face the scrappy Hawkeyes.
IU Track and Field Hosts Gladstein Invitational
After sweeping in-state rival Purdue in a dual meet over the weekend, the Indiana Men’s and Women’s track and field team will host the Gladstein Invitational this weekend.
In the meet against Purdue, Kind Butler tied the IU 60-meter dash record with a time of 6.72 seconds to lead the men’s team to victory. For the women, Faith Sherrill won Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row after posting the top-two shot put throws in the entire world for this season.
Wilson’s Staff Takes Shape
Though offensive coordinator Brent Pease bolted back to Boise State to take the same position for the Broncos, Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson continues to round out his coaching staff in preparation for his debut season in Bloomington.
Thus far, Wilson has hired Doug Mallory (son of former IU head coach Bill Mallory) and Mark Ekeler as co-defensive coordinators. Kevin Johns and Rod Smith will be calling directing the offense as co-offensive coordinators. Wilson has lured Mark Hagen away from rival Purdue to be special teams coordinator.
In a release from IU Athletics, Wilson said:
“We have deliberately taken time with our hires to make sure we get the right fits, not just with coaching backgrounds and pedigrees, but getting the right people to make up a cohesive unit”
